NTJ Forum: An NTA Refund for Joel Slemrod

Everyone loves a tax refund. And unlike a typical refund that is received only by the taxpayer, the September 2025 issue of the National Tax Journal contains a refund for Joel Slemrod that others can share.

This refund consists of five scintillating published papers on tax topics related to Joel Slemrod’s research.

As an added treat, there will be a webinar to discuss these papers, and all that they imply.

We share this because you have the opportunity to join the webinar. The webinar discussion will be unscripted and freewheeling – there will be joys and disappointments, new revelations, transcendent insights, and ultimately community and triumph. It’s like a Taylor Swift concert, except that it’s free.

The Editors of the National Tax Journal (NTJ) are proud and excited to continue our webinar series that periodically features some of the NTJ’s recently published articles.

Please join us as Jim Hines (University of Michigan) moderates (if that is the right word) a discussion with Wojciech Kopczuk (Columbia), Naomi Feldman (Hebrew University), Mick Keen (University of Tokyo), Caroline Weber (University of Kentucky), and Jeff Hoopes (UNC-Chapel Hill) on papers that celebrate some of Joel’s contributions to the study of tax policy and administration.

Date: Wednesday, September 24, 2025
Time: 2:00 – 3:00 pm ET

(Please note that other tax luminaries are also implicated: Feldman’s paper is coauthored with Marsha Blumenthal, Daniel Reck and Max Risch; Weber’s paper is coauthored with Will Boning, Adam Cole, Laura Kawano, Sara LaLumia and Shanthi Ramnath; and Hoopes’ paper is coauthored with Michelle Hanlon and Doug Shackelford.
