NTA Encourages Your Professional Development

The National Tax Association (NTA) is committed to developing the next generation of policy experts in the areas of taxation and government finance. We have a number of initiatives specifically for graduate students and young professionals. Please contact NTA with questions or to get involved at nta@ntanet.org.

Membership
The NTA offers a discounted student membership of $50 (a $65 savings!). NTA’s diverse membership is its unique feature and its greatest strength. The Association brings together government, corporate, academic, and independent professionals – a rich mix of federal and state legislators, administrators and policy analysts; taxpayer representatives; practicing lawyers and accountants; professors of economics, law and accounting; students; and interested citizens. Doctoral Dissertation Award
The NTA Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award was established in 1971 and recognizes exemplary dissertation research in government finance and taxation.

All graduate students at accredited U.S. and Canadian institutions who will receive the doctoral degree or its equivalent between a specific time period are eligible to apply. Entries are judged by a panel of experts on the basis of originality, clarity of exposition, and significance of the analysis for scholars and practitioners of government finance. The winner receives $2,000 and the opportunity to adapt the manuscript for publication in the National Tax Journal. Two honorable mention awards of $1,000 each may be given for other outstanding entries. The winners are announced in September of each year and presented the awards at the NTA Annual Conference on Taxation. Papers based on the dissertations are featured at the Annual Conference as well.
