The Editors of the National Tax Journal (NTJ) are excited to continue our webinar series that periodically features some of the NTJ’s recently published articles.

Co-sponsored with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the Deciphering the Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax webinar will feature four papers from the Forum of the June 2024 issue. Fueled by debates about corporate tax fairness, the corporate alternative minimum tax (CAMT) is back. The intent of the CAMT is to safeguard against tax avoidance strategies that can lead to large and profitable firms paying little to no income tax. But since inception, the CAMT has faced several challenges – from concerns of its potential impacts on investments and economic growth, to the added complexity of taxing a measure of financial earnings, to lingering uncertainties that have necessitated a slew of ongoing guidance and revisions.

Please join us as Elena Patel (University of Utah-Eccles) moderates a discussion with Erin Henry (University of Arkansas), Jennifer Blouin (University of Pennsylvania-Wharton), Karl Russo (PwC), and David Gamage (Indiana University) on what is currently understood about the corporate responses to and revenue consequences of the CAMT.

Henry’s paper is coauthored with Danielle Green (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), Caitlin McGovern (IRS) and George Plesko (University of Connecticut). Blouin’s paper is coauthored with Nathan Born (University of Pennsylvania-Wharton). Gamage’s paper is coauthored with Ari Glogower (Northwestern University).
