116th Annual Conference Graduate Student Activities

November 2-4, 2023 | Grand Hyatt Denver | Denver, Colorado

The National Tax Association warmly welcomes graduate students to attend our Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado.

The conference offers many opportunities to meet and talk with NTA members, the leaders in tax and government spending policy. As you will find out, our members want to get to know you and learn about your research! And for those of you on the job market, attending the conference will increase your profile and help put you in touch with potential employers.

We have several activities planned specifically for graduate students. Read on!

Early Career Professional Breakfast
The Early Career Professionals Breakfast will take place in conjunction with the NTA Annual Conference in Denver on Thursday, November 2, 7:00 AM – 8:15 AM. The Early Career Professionals Breakfast welcomes NTA members who are within six years of post graduate work in accounting, law, finance policy, economics, etc.  Students/Early Career Professionals are encouraged to attend. Please email April Davis at nta@ntanet.org to sign up as a mentor for the sessions.

Graduate Student Breakfast
All students are invited to a free breakfast on Friday, November 3 from 7:00 to 8:15 am at the conference hotel. This is a great opportunity to meet students from other graduate programs and NTA members — some of whom may become your colleagues and coauthors. In addition, NTA members employed in government agencies and think tanks will discuss how they inform and develop public policy with their work and research. Please email April Davis at nta@ntanet.org to sign up as a mentor for the sessions.
Sponsorships for the breakfast are available! Contact April Davis at nta@ntanet.org for information.

Next Generation Session
This session at the conference will consist entirely of graduate student papers. The session is well attended by the NTA community of tax and public finance professionals as well as graduate students. The Next Generation Session is scheduled for Friday, November 3, from 1:45pm-3:15pm at the conference hotel.

Graduate Student Research Forum
The Annual Conference will also have a student poster session that will allow students to network with other professionals working on tax and government spending policy-including potential employers! Students will present their research one-on-one and in a small group setting. The Graduate Student Research Forum will be held Friday, November 3, at the conference hotel.  The Graduate Student Research Forum will be followed by the Holland Award Reception.

Saturday Afternoon Short Course
Graduate students are encouraged to attend the short course Behavioral Economics and Tax Compliance, presented by Ricardo Perez-Truglia, Associate Professor of Economics Analysis & Policy, Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. The session is free and will run from 1:00 to 2:30 pm, on Saturday, November 4 and will be held in Mt. Sopris on the lobby floor of the Grand Hyatt Denver Hotel. The short course is sponsored by the University of Michigan Office of Tax Policy Research.

On the Job Market?
If so, please tell us when you register for the conference. You can also provide us with a link to your web page. We will make it easier for potential employers to find you by putting your name, e-mail address, and homepage on the conference website and indicating on the conference program whether a speaker is a graduate student on the market this year. This will be your opportunity to meet with organizations interested in hiring. Click here for the current list of graduate students.

Stay tuned for program and registration information. Please direct any questions to  nta@ntanet.org.

See you in Denver!
