Tax Policy in Interesting Times

The 113^th Annual conference on Taxation was held via Zoom Wednesday, November 18 through Friday, November 20. The short course was held on Saturday, November 21.

This year’s Annual Conference covered a broad range of topics including, but not limited to, taxation and tax policies; expenditure policies; government budgeting; intergovernmental fiscal relations; and subnational, national, and international public finance. This year’s conference also followed a historic national election, occurred in the midst of a global pandemic and a long overdue reassessment of the role of race and racism in American society. Each of these developments bring with them potentially significant implications for tax policy and public finance, and the conference centered on taking stock of this moment and what it means for our field.

The keynote speakers for the Annual Conference were Stefanie Stantcheva (Harvard University) and Ivan Werning  (MIT).

The conference also featured plenary sessions on Tax and Fiscal Policy: After the Election, What’s Next? and Racism and Tax Policy.

The conference included a short-course education session on Saturday taught by Florian Scheuer (University of Zurich) and many opportunities for graduate students to present their research and network with NTA members.
